How the paint color match score works
When your mix is done, take a photo of the paint. Palette Master compares it with your target and tells you how close you got.
Percentage, grade and ΔE
The match is shown as a percentage and a letter grade, alongside ΔE (delta E), a standard measure of color difference. The lower the ΔE, the closer the colors. Small differences are hard to see with the naked eye.
You also see how your actual result compares with the predicted match from the recipe.
When the mix is off
If your paint is not quite there, the app gives one clear fix, such as adding a touch of a specific pigment to warm it up or lighten it. Make the change, retake the photo and check again.
Getting an accurate photo
Photograph the paint in even daylight, without shadows or glare. For acrylic, gouache and tempera, wait until the paint is dry, because these colors shift as they dry.
